Barbados Port Inc., which runs the Port of Bridetown, is dedicated to supporting businesses in the import/export trade with state-of-the-art cargo handling facilities, and works at the heart of the island’s cruise industry, providing great berthing spots, dedicated vessel and passenger services. The company is a guardian of the environment, preserving the island’s heritage landmarks and protecting its blue and green spaces.

CARGO

The Port of Bridgetown is the major port of entry for approximately 90% of the goods used in the manufacturing and retail sectors in Barbados. It is also dedicated to supporting businesses in export and trade and does all this through the provision of the following services:

  1. Receipt and delivery of cargo, utilising a variety of cargo handling equipment.
  2. Storage of cargo awaiting delivery or shipment, in covered warehouses or open storage, which in the case of reefer containers is accommodated by 440V reefer plugs.
  3.  Unstuffing / stuffing containers
  4. Sorting of cargo according to special requirements of consignee
  5. Rental of cargo handling operations equipment   e.g. forklifts etc.
  6. Priority access to block-stacked empty containers as requested by ship agents
  7. Covering of cargo in open stacking areas

CRUISES

The Port of Bridgetown is at the heart of the island’s cruise tourism. The Port welcomes approximately 800,000 cruise visitors annually. Cruise passenger arrivals reached record levels on Friday, December 29, 2017 with the arrival of passenger number 812,864 that year. All major cruise lines have chosen the Port of Bridgetown as a port of call.

In addition to providing great berthing spots and friendly, efficient service as it welcomes passengers at its Cruise Transfers Terminal, which houses the homeporting operations, and the main Cruise Terminal, which receives disembarking guests, the Port of Bridgetown is an access point to the island’s many attractions.

At just 166 square miles, Barbados has more attractions per square mile than any other Caribbean island. It is that rich combination of culture, heritage, adventure, sport, cuisine, shopping and activities, that saw Barbados emerged a top rated Southern Caribbean Cruise Destination in the Cruise Critic’s 2017 Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards.
